James – pt. 18

James 4:13-17

Looking at vs. 13-16: These verses aren’t telling us not to make plans and preparation for the future. It’s reminding us that we don’t know what the future holds, God does. That we should listen to Him and work to keep our plans in line with His will. We don’t know what He has in store for us, or even if tomorrow will come for us. All we can do is give Him the glory and honor that comes from our planning and follow where He leads us.

[v. 17]
Y’all, do what you’re supposed to do.

Sinning isn’t just not doing what’s “bad”. It’s also not taking advantage of the opportunities God places in front of us to do good.

[see Luke 12:47 and Ephesians 2:10]

It’s not good enough to just abstain from evil. We must also actively pursue righteousness and good works.
