James – pt. 17

James 4:11-12

“Don’t speak evil against each other.”

What is it God wants us to do for each other as brothers and sisters in Christ?

Edify. Encourage. Lift up.

In Ephesians 4:12, Paul says use our gifts to build each other up.
In Hebrews 10:25, the Christians are told to come together to encourage one another.
Romans 12:10 says for us to “love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”
So many times in Acts we read of the believers encouraging one another.

So going back to James, does criticizing and judging and speaking evil of one another sound like edifying and encouraging?

He says our job is to obey the law. Which law are we to obey? The one Jesus gives us in John 13:34 – to love each other as Jesus loves us.

God is our lawgiver and judge. We are to set an example and teach and guide in love. It’s not our job not our burden to save or condemn – that right and power is for God alone.
